Eggshells Away!
As part of our science unit on cells, we decided to get up close and personal with eggs. A chicken egg is just one cell but we don’t need a microscope to look at it. We soaked eggs in vinegar for two days in order to dissolve the shells. Now our eggs have only their cell membrane holding them together! They are rubbery and translucent and lots of fun to hold.
In order to see diffusion and osmosis in action, we are observing what happens to the shell-free eggs when they are placed in substances like corn syrup, molasses, food coloring, and salt. We only had one casualty when setting up our tests today! (See below)
